The online divide
Gone are the days of going down to see Mary at the local travel agents. She had a worldly heir about her that would suggest that they know everything and we know nothing. Part of that close-up n’ personal service, this was the problem with travel agents-that they were so close up and personal. Advising you to do this, go there, see that, take out that insurance. A lot of people ended up booking holidays that they never intended. “We were thinking of Australia for a holiday” “well” says Mary “what you could do is, go via Bangkok and Tokyo-this will cost you an extra…” and so on… “but it’s well worth the extra time and money,…well why not cut out Australia altogether, since it’s not that much different to the US”.
These days in the modern world, the internet plays a huge part in our lives and if you aren’t using it for wheeling, dealing, booking and buying, then you soon will be. A lot of the few, who still don’t use the net for any of the above, refuse to believe that this could be a recognized or safe way of buying. The fear of the unknown is still a valid fear. I have a credit card and a password that I enter into a computer, who knows who might be listening, seeing or hacking. The fact of the matter is, that if you possess a valid credit card, and you are booking via a reputable site, then online reservation or ordering is now very safe, simple, and even cheaper! So tell me more!
Safe because:
You can check that you are on a “secure” website. All entered details are always submitted by a secure server like Versign or Comodo. Look for the padlock icon at the bottom of the order screen.
Simple because:
The whole procedure (of booking a hotel room for example) is perfectly automated. From the moment you start your transaction, you will be guided through the four or five required steps informing you along the way when you make mistakes or wrong entries. When booking hotels or travel, the automated reservation display calendar tells in pictures exactly what you need to know in regards to itinerary, including the number of days, the availability just by clicking on the days on the calendar. You can even add your own requests, such as a sea view room or a room on the first floor. The confirmation is then instantly sent automatically to your email address. No more Mary!
Cheaper because:
When booking on the internet the extra costs in administration and “Mary” handling charges are not needed, this saving is then passed on to you in the form of online reservation discounts. This applies to buying virtually anything online. Some companies offer as much as 50% discount for online reservation. Could it be easier?
Hotel reservation online:
You can’t go wrong if you follow the basic rules and use reputable companies and hotels. Take the Tai-Pan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Lauded as a major business hotel in central Bangkok, the Tai-Pan offers a very attractive internet booking discounts. The service is great and accommodation facilities are very comfortable. When you are in Bangkok, this hotel has it all; perfectly located for convenient access to all of Bangkok, Green Leaf certification and most importantly- slightly nestled away from the bustle of the city. They provide other facilities too, like an all purpose gym and pool for workouts or just relaxation by the poolside. Oh and before I forget, be rest assured, the online reservation system is very secure.
